All appreciated the smooth fit, the exceptional protection provided by the upper and sole, the cushioning and stability features, and the aggressive traction of the outsole. But few testers felt they needed that kind of protection unless they were heading on an ultra run over technical terrain (where you’ll find these on many of the top finishers). The heel height drew negative comments from several testers, who nevertheless remarked that the forefoot provided a nice, flexible ride. The tight fit and unique lacing system were either loved or tolerated. Look for Salomon to offer a lower-profile trail model in 2012.
